Meet Officer Ryan Matheson

school resource officer ryan matheson for Cooley Middle School

My name is Officer Ryan Matheson, and I have been with the Gilbert Police Department since 2019. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Lock Haven University and worked as a teacher for sixteen years before transitioning to law enforcement. Prior to my move to the School Resource Officer (SRO) division, I served as a patrol officer and earned certifications in Advanced Traffic Reconstruction, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), phlebotomy, Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), LIDAR, General Instruction (Master Instructor), and Rifle Operations.

I believe in fostering strong collaboration among the police department, the school district, and our Gilbert community to create a positive environment for the students at Cooley Middle School. My goal is to assist parents and students as they navigate the middle school years, instill leadership and good decision-making skills, and build positive relationships.

Throughout the school year, I will be hosting several parent nights to educate parents on the latest trends we are observing. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me here at Cooley Middle School at 480-279-8300 ext: 8322

Please see the Gilbert School Resource Officer Website for more information about the School Resource Officer (SRO) program and other opportunities which the Gilbert Police Department offers young adults.
